Red oak is a medium brown with reddish undertones. The sapwood is white to light brown with a pinkish reddish brown heartwood. The wood is mostly straight grained, with a coarse texture. Red Oak is a grainy, higher density hardwood. The wood is similar in general appearance to white oak but with a slightly less pronounced figure due to the smaller rays. As Red Oak is a ring porous wood, it accepts stain very well making the annual growth rings very pronounced.
